Event Report: The Junghans Collection.

In 1861 Erhard Junghans founded Zeller & Junghans in Schramberg. By 1903 Junghans was the largest clock factory in the world. The factory started making wristwatches during the 1930s. The present Junghans collection consists of Pilot watches, Chronographs and classics from the past.

Watches of Switzerland recently acquired the dealership of Junghans watches in Singapore. Christine Laube, International Sales Director of Junghans was here recently to meet the press over lunch and to introduce the latest collection.

Max Bill was a renowned architect and industrial designer who graduated from Staatliches Bauhaus art school. During the 50s and 60s, he designed clocks and watches for Junghans.

The Max Bill Collection: Max Bill Chronoscope

The Max Bill Damen Quartz for ladies

The Max Bill Automatic. There are also two similar models with black dials.

The Max Bill Automatic without date. This piece will still look good in 30 years. There is practically no bezel so the watch looks bigger than it’s 38 mm case. The domed plexiglass and convex dial complete its vintage look. It is powered by the workhouse ETA 2824 movement.

I love the clean lines of this Max Bill Handaufzug despite the smaller 34mm case. For those who love minimalist design or a classic Bauhaus watch but not something that will burn a hole in your pocket, the Junghans Max Bill collection is a good option to consider.

Meister Chronoscope

The Meister Pilot with dodecagonal bezel is pretty close to the original German Bundeswehr chronograph made in 1955.

Meister Kalender

Everyone likes a well-finished movement but if you just want a watch with a nice uncluttered look, without some fancy in-house movement, you don’t have to pay a premium for these elegant timepieces!
