Press Release: The TAG Heuer Family Fire Up An Evening Of Glitz and Entertainment in the heart of Singapore

SINGAPORE, 14th September 2016 – TAG Heuer rocks the crowd with an exclusive pre-F1 showcase featuring two of the biggest stars in the pop and rock arenas with a mini outdoor concert at ION Orchard two days prior to the race.
TAG Heuer hosted a highly charged crowd, which swelled to almost 700-strong at one point, to celebrate Red Bull Racing Team Formula 1 Driver Daniel Ricciardo and Brand ambassador, Chinese music star -the composer, dancer, musician and actress - G.E.M. ringing to the tune of Chinese pop rock.

TAG Heuer Brand ambassador G.E.M. is a generational phenomenon throughout the country and across Asia. Young, beautiful and talented with a powerful voice and a sought-after look, she is the epitome of success and, at just 25, is admired by an entire generation of youngsters who know her songs by heart. The award-winning pop star is the only female singer from Asia to make the Forbes 30 under 30 list for musicians in 2016.

To celebrate the first year of partnership with the most unorthodox team in Formula 1, a landmark agreement back in December 2015 seeing TAG Heuer become the Official Timekeeper & Official Watch of the Red Bull Racing team. The two brands announced the new name of the 2016 car, "Red Bull Racing TAG Heuer RB12", with TAG Heuer being included in the team’s official constructor listing. It is the first time a watchmaker has ever been named directly in the constructors’ listing in this way.

Red Bull Racing has amassed four Double World Champion titles, having won the FIA Constructors’ and Drivers’ titles each year in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. However, it was Red Bull Racing’s refreshing approach to the sport and to entertainment which appealed to TAG Heuer, one which is perfectly in line with the Swiss watch brand’s new marketing strategy.

Set against one of Singapore’s glitziest shopping destinations with spectacular staging and immersive light show, the once-in-a-lifetime event certainly lived up to its billing.

The stage, decked out in black-and-white recalling the race’s chequered flag, was flanked by TAG Heuer’s famous hashtag #DontCrackUnderPressure.

G.E.M. then took to the stage and enthralled the crowd with her high-energy performance, ending her three-song set to thunderous applause -- a reception that was matched only by the introduction of the evening’s other superstar, Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo.

Ricciardo and G.E.M treated the crowd to their infectious sense of fun when they tried their hands at live percussion with help from the Urban Drum Crew.

Besides entertaining their fans, both stars were on hand to help unveil the new TAG Heuer Formula One Red Bull Racing Team limited edition watches. A collection of chronographs encased in stainless steel, the watches are emblazoned in the Red Bull Racing Team’s signature blue and red on the dials, while the back of the cases are engraved with the team logo and the iconic Formula One chequered flag. The watches are available with stainless steel bracelet or technical textile straps featuring red stitching that recalls race car seat belts.

The evening’s entertainment started with a slew of performances by homegrown talents Gareth Fernandez and Tay Kewei, who worked the crowd with their upbeat tunes and vocal prowess. Instrumental percussion act, Urban Drum Crew, then took energy levels up a notch with their rhythmic grooves. Following that, Singapore’s foremost beatboxer Dharni, rocked the stage with his vocal gymnastics, further nudging the crowd to fever pitch, as they provided a rousing welcome for singing sensation G.E.M.

The party then continued after Ricciardo and G.E.M. were whisked away for their media interviews. Kewei and Gareth Fernandez again took to the stage to belt out more tunes, followed by internationally renowned, Singapore-based deck-meister DJ TINC, who brought the night to a close with a rousing EDM set.
