Swiss luxury watch
manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen has created a seductive range of partners’
watches to grace its Portofino collection. The Portofino Automatic and the
smaller Portofino Automatic 37 have formed a bond and together set off their
respective attractions to their best advantage. Couples who wish to celebrate
their union with a symbol on their wrists can choose from eight combinations.
Whether purist or lavishly set with diamonds, the timeless beauty of the
Portofino For Two models underscores the decision by two individuals to spend
their time and build their future together.
The Portofino Automatic 37 (Ref. 4581) and the Portofino Automatic (Ref. 3565) represent the marriage of two individual watches whose simple design language is an unequivocal commitment to timelessness. “The success of IWC’s Portofino watch line over the years can be explained by a discreet sense of style that goes way beyond short-lived fashion trends,” explains Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen. “In keeping with its name, this watch family reflects a carefree lifestyle suffused with southern flair. The Portofino For Two is a wonderful way for couples who share not only the same values, but also the same taste to show the world that they belong together.” The Portofino For Two alliance embraces six red gold and two stainless-steel versions. With their diamond-set bezels or dials, they will appeal to couples who not only plan to share the beautiful things in life with each other, but also wish to add a luxurious note to their mutual commitment. The mirror-polished surface of the case lends a further touch of luxury while the sunburst pattern on the dials creates fascinating reflections of light. An eye-catching feature on the 37-millimetre models is a slightly recessed inner circle, which underlines the dial’s three-dimensional character. The delicately nuanced colours of the alligator leather straps from well-known Italian shoe manufacturer Santoni accentuate the luxurious overall impression.
A FLIRT WITH
INDIVIDUALITY
The Portofino For Two watches bring together the same
classically elegant design, a clearly laid-out dial with three hands and an
understated date display. Beyond this, however, they have individual
characteristics of their own. The Portofino Automatic 37 in its 37-millimetre
case looks particularly attractive on a slender wrist, while the Portofino
Automatic with a diameter of 40 millimetres makes an optically more dominant
impression. The solid mechanical automatic movement in both models keeps
reliable time and guarantees 42 hours of precision running when fully wound.
Apart from the hour, minute and seconds hands, the Portofino For Two features a
rapid-advance date display. The central hacking seconds hand is stopped by
pulling out the crown, and the sapphire glass has an anti reflective coating on
both sides to guarantee clear vision. As a symbol of the unity of two
individual personalities, the Portofino For Two comes in a wide choice of
models. The Portofino Automatic 37 cuts a particularly glittering figure with
66 diamonds on the bezel or a slightly more reserved one with 12 gemstones on
the dial. Two of the Portofino Automatic models in red gold are likewise
available with a diamond-set bezel. All red gold models are available with a
choice of a slate-coloured or silver-plated dial as well as gold-plated hands
and appliqués. The stainless-steel versions of the 37-millimetre models feature
a slate-coloured dial while the Portofino Automatic in the 40-millimetre case
makes a stunning impression with its black dial and rhodium-plated hands and
appliqués.
THE PORTOFINO
For more than a quarter of a century now, the Portofino
watch family has held a firm place in the collection from IWC Schaffhausen. The
former fishing village of Portofino near Genoa in Italy is the epitome of
cultivated “joie de vivre” and cosmopolitan glamour. Even today, the great and
the good gather in Portofino to enjoy the relaxed, laid-back southern European
lifestyle. The classically elegant Portofino watch family is a subtle
reflection of this lifestyle. Well-known Italian shoe manufacturer Santoni is
now run in the second generation by Giuseppe Santoni. Exclusively for IWC
Schaffhausen, the company produces the top-quality leather straps that adorn
the Portofino Automatic 37 and the two Portofino Automatic partners’ models
with diamond-set bezels. A complex process during manufacture endows the leather
with a certain patina that results in the characteristic gradations and
nuances of colour. The technique makes leather look as if it had already been
lovingly cared for over a period of several years even though it is, in fact,
brand new. Another instantly recognizable feature of Santoni shoes is an orange
leather lining, mirrored here on the inner surface of the strap. All the charm
and aesthetic appeal of life in the south is united in the perfect craftsmanship
that hallmarks both watch and strap.
