As part of its landmark partnership with World Rugby, TUDOR is the Official Timekeeper of Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018, which will take place in San Francisco in July. Rugby Sevens is a fast-paced and spectacular sport for the daring that perfectly embodies the spirit of the TUDOR brand.
Two seven-minute halves. Seven players per team, all ready to give it their all. A classic rugby pitch, traditionally occupied by a total of 30 players. The seven-aside game is a redefinition of rugby standards through its entirely different way of managing space. The space on the field, coupled with the number of players participating creates an ultra-physical, ultra-rapid and ultra-daring style of play. With very few interruptions to the game, scrums or line-outs, the sport rely on explosive power, versatility and the ability to push the boundaries.
The result is a very intense game that electrifies spectators with its rapid changes of direction and breathless phases of play. The 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens final saw the All Blacks Sevens triumph over England with a 33-0 win - an unprecedented result for teams of this calibre.
The seventh edition of the competition will be held for the first time in the United States, where the sport is rapidly gaining momentum. San Francisco has been chosen as the host city. The matches will be held at the famous sea-front Giants stadium, with the baseball pitch transformed for the occasion. On the weekend of 20 to 22 July 2018, 24 men's teams and 16 women's teams will compete for the title of Rugby World Cup Sevens champions under TUDOR's chronometric supervision.
The participating teams include the All Blacks Sevens and the Black Ferns Sevens, proud representatives of New Zealand and one of favourites to triumph in the contest. In particular, the Black Ferns team dominates the women's game like no other. Both teams are also TUDOR ambassadors as part of the brand's partnership with the New Zealand Rugby Union.
