Event Report: MB&F HM8 Launch In Singapore.

Maximilian Busser was in Singapore recently to launch his latest avant-garde creation, the HM8 ‘Can-Am’. This watch was inspired by the Canadian-American Challenge Cup - a sports car racing series running from 1966 to 1987. Luxury watch retailer, The Hour Glass, hosted a preview lunch for journalists to learn more about the history of the Can-Am race and to get a feel of the watch that was inspired by it. A dinner was also held for Max to meet with MB&F collectors and to share his story behind the creation of the watch.

This year the Can-Am race would have celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Max showcasing the design concept of the watch over lunch. The HM8 Can-Am comes in 18K white gold/titanium and 18K red gold/titanium. You will notice that the HM8 is a combination of two design elements from both the HM5 and HM3.

As with all MB&F timepieces, the finishing is immaculate. The two highly polished roll bars formed the top structure of the case. They are made from grade 5 titanium which is known for its low density and high strength. The movement is based on a Girard-Perregaux calibre.

Another interesting aspect of this watch is its case design. At first glance, one might assume that a circular sapphire crystal is sitting above the rotor. In actual fact, the complete top case is an entire sapphire crystal block, with certain parts metalised, creating a bluish tint.

The jumping hour and trailing minutes are made possible by reflected light from an optical prism, like the HM5 design concept.

Looks really impressive on the wrist!

Glad to meet Max again and my thanks to The Hour Glass for the preview!
